A supertask is a task that is linked to a separate project. Supertasks are often used for units of work that are complex enough to need projects of their own. The design of a complicated product such as an airplane could be a supertask.
A project linked to a supertask is called a subproject; a project with a supertask is a master project. Together, these projects are a project family. The schedule and cost information from the subproject are calculated into the supertask.

Supertasks are represented in the Schedule Chart as black rectangles with a white oval inside them. In the Task Timeline and Resource Timeline, they are represented as bars with a half oval at each end. On a color device, noncritical supertasks are in green and critical supertasks are in red in the Schedule Chart and the timeline charts.
